The vision @ Canteen again makes me think mathematically:
It was 9:30 pm and I was hungry ,so I decided to have a good dinner. But even a dinner doesn't last long and so I had to get up and go. I was about to do so by placing the dinner plate in the tray rack but it was already filled .So I had to place mine inside a rack which already had one and did it. At this very point of time a vision flashed through my mind and it was the "Pigeonhole principle"
I had to place my plate in an already filled rack because the no.of racks was less than the no.of plates required for people to eat .So one of the racks ended up in occupying more than one plate. This is basically the pigeon hole principle which is used in Combinatorics.
In mathematics, the pigeonhole principle states that if n items are put into m containers, with n > m, then at least one container must contain more than one item.
IStrangely this comes to my mind 3 times everyday. Even some of the plates in canteen are large that they do not fit into the trays .Such times it comes to my mind that " Ha! this pigeon has become so fat that its unable to fit into the holes. :)"
The first time when I came across this was in 11th when I was reading the Mathematics Excalibur which was partly Chinese and partly English. But I never thought that it would come up everyday in my life.
"There are two kinds of people in this world .Those who love math and those who haven't realized that they love math."
